Equalizer Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation for Towing 2018 Catalina Trailblazer 26TH

Question:

Hi there, I have a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab with a towing capacity of 9,500 lbs, and 15,000 GCVW. I will be towing a 2018 Catalina Trailblazer 26TH toy hauler with a full weight around 6,500 - 7,000 lbs. The Tongue weight on it is 957 lbs empty but when I load up the trailer it will probably to around 800 lbs best guess. Which Equalizer weight distribution system would be best for my situation the 1,000 lb 10,000 lb, or the 1,200 lb 12,000 lb? Thanks,

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

You said the tongue weight when unloaded was 957 lbs and when loaded 800 lbs. Sounds like the weight you would be adding would be behind the rear axle like where most toy haulers carry the "toys" at. So the tongue weight would decrease.

Based on that the Equalizer Kit part # EQ37100ET would be ideal as it has a tongue weight of between 600 and 1,000 lbs. To install the hitch ball you'll need a thin walled socket like part # ALL643216.
