Recommendation for Towing a Motorcycle with a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria

Question:

Heres what Im trying to do. Im open to advice. I would like to tow my motorcycle to the track and back 2-5hr drive, mostly highway using this Motorcycle Carrier: 600-lb capacity hauls any motorcycle Works with Class III and IV 2inch receivers My motorcycle fully loaded will be nearly 550lbs. So Im thinking using the hitch #13707 with the Weight Dist on my 2001 Crown Victoria. Will this work? What do you think? Any better options? Am I to close to the 600lb limit? I dont like trailering and its another cost so thats why Im trying to see if this will work. Im not towing much weight at all, Im concerned about the hitch failing over a big bump on the road and sending my precious motorcycle tumbling toward a total loss. Thanks in advance.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13707 for your 2001 Ford Crown Victoria will not have the capacity you are seeking. It is only rated for 400 lbs tongue weight for this type of application so your bike and the carrier will far surpass its capacity. I recommend using a trailer along with this hitch to protect your bike as a carrier will not work with your vehicle.

For your wiring, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM11140504. A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits. I've attached an article to assist with the routing of this power wire.

For a ball mount, I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches - 7,500 lbs # 989900. This will give you two different height options for a ball mount, the hitch ball, hitch pin, and storage case.

Then for your trailer, I recommend the K2 Mighty Multi Utility Trailer # K2MMT5X7. Then I recommend you use the Tow-Rax Removable Wheel Chock # TWSPWM. For tie-downs, I recommend the Erickson # EM05710 along with the # 06303.

Let me know if you have any questions.
