Choosing the Best Weight Distribution System for 2010 Keystone Hideout

Question:

I Have a 2008 Toyota Tundra with a 30 foot 2010 keystone hideout RV camper. the specs from the manufacture are: Weight Dry Weight 6,083 lbs.Payload Capacity 1,597 lbs. GVWR 7,680 lbs.Hitch Weight 680 lbs. I was considering a husky center line 12000# or curt tru track 10000# hitch. What do you recommend for and hitch? I may also upgrade my pickups to a 2018 2500 hd Chevrolet or super duty f-250 ford. Thanks

Thank you for the info; it is possible to make a guess on the best weight distribution system for you, though in order to choose the correct system, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2008 Toyota Tundra.

To determine your trailer's loaded tongue weight you can use a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

Since your trailer has a dry hitch weight of 680 lbs we can make a guess that your total, loaded tongue weight will be somewhere in the range of 850 lbs. If that is the case I recommend the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66559, which is similar to the Husky and Curt systems you mentioned as they each use friction in the spring bars to help reduce sway. The Steadi-Flex has a tongue weight capacity of between 500 lbs and 1,000 lbs and does require either 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286. I've added links to video reviews of this system for you to take a look at.
