If the trailer is a Jayco trailer, you will just need the 4-way to 6-way round adapter # A10-6034VP and then the 6-wayd round to 6-way square adapter # HM47415, to go from the 4-Way flat on the 2006 Honda Odyssey to the 6 square on the trailer.

If the trailer is a different brand, this adapter will not work. Instead, you will need to convert one of the connectors to be compatible with the other. If you convert the trailer, the other 2 functions on it will be lost unless you converted it back again. If you converted the vehicle, it will only be compatible with trailers that have a 6-Way square connector, which there are not very many.

Converting the trailer like you have said would be the way I would go. You would need to get a trailer side 4-Way flat connector, # HMC20031, and proceed to remove the 6 square plug. With the wires free, you would insert them into the new 4-Way flat, leaving out the wire for brakes and the wire for 12-volt accessories.

You will need to insert the now bare wires into the 4-Way by function. The exposed pin on the 4-Way is for ground, next to that is the pin for running lights, then the pin for left turn and brake, and last is the pin for right turn and rakes.
