Weight Distribution System Recommendation for a 2016 Gulf Stream Ameri-lite Travel Trailer

Question:

Hi! We own a 2005 Ford Expedition 4x4 Eddie Bauer edition and were interested in purchasing a 2016 Amerilite by Gulfstream and Im wanting to be sure our vehicle can handle towing. Im unsure of what weight distribution product will best accommodate. The towing capacity for the Ford is 6000 lbs and the weight of the camper trailer is 5386. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For a trailer that weighs 5,800 lbs you'd be looking at a tongue weight of 580 to about 800 lbs tongue weight so the best setup we have would be the Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and features only sway control available that works to fight sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
