How Does Prodigy P3 Work in Terms of Inertia on 2007 Toyota 4Runner?

Question:

Hello, I have a Toyota 4runner 2007 with the 7 way factory connection to the trailer. I am designing a custom offroading trailer from the ground up and am going to order a 3500 lb axle with electric brakes. I am new to the braking system on trailer having never used or installed one. I was looking at the Tekonsha 3P Brake controller, and watched the installation video on your web site. I am trying to understand how the Brake controller works. From the video i understand the it has a Inertial sensors so when i am going at speed and apply brakes it will sense the deceleration and apply brakes accordingly. My question is if I am off-roading on a trail with 55+ incline over rocks and boulders and am moving only at a few miles an hour, when i press the brake pedal will it apply the trailer brakes since there will be almost NO inertia but i will be in the need of trailer brakes to function due to the incline. Also just to confirm this is a plug and play system in the 2007 4runner as well? since in your video you used a 2014 4runner Thanks

In terms of how and when the Prodigy P3 # 90195 works, it will apply the brakes even if you are on an incline and going slowly. You mentioned there will be "almost" no inertia but there will still be deceleration which the P3 will sense and apply your trailer brakes accordingly; it also automatically adjusts with your incline or decline. Additionally, the P3 has boost settings so that the initial braking begins with more of your trailer's braking power. I've attached the portion of the manual which goes over this. The link to the full directions are also included.
