Tow Package Fuse and Relay Locations for 12 Volt Power on a 2006 Ford F-150
Question:
I recently installed a winch to my car trailer. It has a battery on it. I was told by the trailer guys that I would probably need to add a fuse to the fuse box to make sure power ran to the wiring 7 way connector that came on my 2006 F150 to make sure power ran to it. Can you tell me where the fuse is and what size I should use?

According to an owners manual I found from Ford for the 2006 F-150 the 12 power fuse for the 7-Way is located in spot 106 and requires a 30 amp cartridge fuse. There is also a Full ISO relay needed in spot R05. Your owners manual has a section on fuses and relays for more information. The fuse you should be able to get at an auto parts store but the relay is most likely a dealer item.
I would first test the 7-Way trailer connector to see if it has 12 volt power on the pin in the 1:00 position. If it does then there is no need to add additional fuses or relays. I have included a link to an FAQ on various ways to wire up a winch that should also be helpful.
