Installation of Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66082 on a Cotner Horse Trailer

Question:

Id like to put this on our cotner horse trailer. The trailer Y at the front of a horse trailer is relatively short. There is more than 30 of length on each side from the ball socket to the trailer so I think length is OK. But on both sides there is a metal bar running parallel to the sides of the trailer that attaches to the Y about midway between the ball socket and the trailer. And on the right side there is an opening on the bottom for a wire to come out that attaches to a breakaway brake system. Im concerned that either the WD attachment or the dual cam attachments will be obstructed by one of these two things. Can I get exact measurements for where the system will attach to the trailer? thanks

The chain hangar brackets on the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System, part # RP66082 will attach to the frame at approximately 30 inches from the center of the trailer coupler to the center of the brackets. These brackets do install over the top of the frame. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Reese WD system and a link to a video of a Reese WD system being installed. It will show how to measure to install the chain hangars.

To attach the Reese WD System, part # RP66082 to your Cotner horse trailer I would recommend to use the Reese Bolt-On Chain Hangers, part # RP58305. These chain hangars are for V-Nose trailers that might have something on the frame that will interfere with the normal attachment of the chain hangars that hang over the top of the frame. The Reese chain hangars # RP58305 will bolt to the side of the trailer frame. They will need to be installed at 31 inches from the center of chain hangers to the center of hitch ball.

The mounting brackets on the Reese Dual Cam Sway Control, part # RP26002 that come with the Reese weight distribution system will mount on the underside of the trailer frame at approximately the 19-3/8 inch mark. This measurement is for the trunnion bar system and is measured from the center of the trailer coupler to the pivot point of the sway control arm. See photo of measurement. I am including a link to the instructions on the Reese dual cam system and a link to a video of the Reese dual cam system being installed.
