Is a Brake Controller Easy to Install on a 2017 Ford F-250

Question:

Just bought a 2017 Ford F250 with tow package, but the little cubby hole for the electric brake controller is empty. I can buy the Ford controller, Part no. HC3Z19H332AA, designed for that little hole, but how difficult is it to install? Will I need a wiring harness or adapters? Thanks

Although I do not know the installation process for installing a Ford brake controller in your 2017 Ford F-250, I can say that to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is very easy. You will simply use the Plug-In Adapter # 22292 to connect your brake controller to the wiring under your driver side dash on your F-250.

With that being said, I also recommend going with the aftermarket P3 over the OEM Ford controller. We have found over the years that OEM controllers tend to not hold up as well as aftermarket alternatives. The P3 is one of the best brake controllers out there which is backed up by the numerous excellent reviews this product has received. The best part about this controller is the LCD screen that provides easy to read feedback which takes reading codes out of the question.

Another reason why I recommend going with this controller over an OEM option is that you can easily install this yourself (see attached F-150 installation video) and you are only paying for the controller and adapter. If you take your F-250 to a dealer they will most likely insist on installing it themselves which can get pricey.
