Is Additional Part Necessary to Prevent Breakaway Battery From Draining?

Question:

I have an enclosed snowmobile trailer with electric brakes. The wiring harness has the red wire from the 7 pin truck plug going directly to the small break away battery. I tapped into this wire to add interior lights. They come on which means they are being powered by the small break away battery. is there a device i should add in series to prevent discharging the battery for the small interior LED lights I purchased from your company? Could you recommend back up lights to purchase? LED of course.

If you have tapped into the red wire from the 12V battery lead as in the attached diagram, the power is coming from your truck's battery and not the breakaway battery and you'd be just fine. If you are tapped into the wiring in any other manner you will want to change it to the 12V battery lead.

As for back-up LED lights I recommend the Transit LED Backup Light # BUL90CB which is a 7" clear light that is surface mounted, waterproof and corrosion-resistant. For a combination taillight/backup light I recommend the Optronics # STL68RB, which are 10-1/8" x 3-1/16", have a red lens for tail light and clear lens for backup light. You can add a snap-on trim ring # A68SSB for this light as well.

I've added links to video reviews of these lights for you to take a look at.
