Recommended 1-1/4 - 2 Receiver Adapter for Towing with a 2016 Jeep Patriot
Question:
I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The towing package has a 1 1/4 inch receiver. I need to convert to a 2 inch receiver for towing a utility trailer up to 2000 lb. Which adaptor should I choose?

One of the most popular hitch adapters that we have is the Brophy Adapter # HTAD. This will convert your 1-1/4 inch receiver to a 2 inch receiver, but keep in mind that this or any other adapter like it will reduce the Tongue Weight (TW) of your trailer hitch by 50%.
Since a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded trailer this means that you TW should fall between 200 lb - 300 lbs. If the reduced TW of your trailer hitch is not more than 300 lbs then you will need to look into another option.
You actually shouldn't need an adapter though, you will just need to select a ball mount from the linked options that has the correct rise or drop that you need (see attached article) and that can accommodate the correct hitch ball size. I have attached a link to our selection of 1-1/4" ball mounts as well as our hitch ball selection for you to filter through. After you choose a ball mount you will just need to find a hitch ball with the correct shank size.
If you need some assistance just let me know what hitch ball size you need and I can make some recommendations for you.
I have attached some videos for you to check out as well.
