Total Capacity of a 2017 Kia Sportage When Equipped with a Class III Hitch
Question:
I have a 2017 Kia Sportage SX turbo and had a Curt class 3 receiver installed aftermarket. I know the hitch is capable of carrying at least 325 pounds. What is the maximum capacity of the vehicle when using this car to carry the scooter 180 pounds mounted on its swing away carrier 120 pounds totalling 300 pounts with hitch mount carrier?

According to my research, the 2017 Kia Sportage SX is only rated itself to be able to carry 220 pounds of tongue weight safely. You will want to verify this with your owner's manual for vehicle specific information.
If your carrier turns out to be too heavy, I recommend instead purchasing the Flint Hill Goods Cargo Carrier with Ramp, part # FHG77ZR. This ramped carrier comes in at 80 pounds, and would put you at a much safer weight total of 260 pounds.
Exceeding the weight capacity of the vehicle can result in damage to the frame or carrier from failure, or overwork your vehicle's engine and transmission, leading to early wear. It's not recommended to exceed the weight limit at any time. If possible, you should contact the mobility scooter's manufacturer for an exact weight to ensure the safety of your vehicle.
