Will a 225/75R15 Sized Trailer Tire Fit on the Same Rim to Replace a P235/75R15 Sized Passenger Tire

Question:

Would like to replace my horse trailer tires. They are currently p235/75r/15 which I know is a car tire. Would like to get st225/75r/15. Want to use the current time 15. Is there any problem mounting the new tires on the current rims? Thankyou,

A 225/75-15 size tire fits on rims that are 6 to 7 inches wide. It's likely your current rims are about 6-1/2 inches wide with a P235/75R15 tire on them so they should work. To be sure measure the width of your rims by measuring where the tire rides on them. I've attached a video on a 15 by 6 inch wheel. If you skip ahead to about the :45 second mark you can see how a rim is measured.

You're definitely on the right track by switching to a trailer tire. Passenger vehicle tires have less support on their sidewalls to handle the vertical load. I recommend the Provider # TR225LRE for a great 225/75-15 radial trailer tire. It has a max capacity of 2,830 pounds per tire at 80 psi. It also has a max speed rating of 81 mph which is higher than a lot of trailer tires.

I've linked a video on the Provider, as well as some help articles, for you to take a look at as well.
