2001 Monaco Diplomat Motorome Brake Controller Wiring

Question:

I have a 2001 Monoca Diplomat on a Roadmaster chassis. I may want to take the brake controller from my Ford and use it to tow a friends trailer with the Motorhome. It has a 6 round connector. Do you have any idea if the same type of port that exists on my Ford with the factory tow package might exist on the Monaco. If not, what would I need to do to connect a controller? Thank you.

If there is a brake controller port on the 2001 Monaco Diplomat, we do not sell a harness that would allow you to just plug a brake controller straight into it.

If the trailer has a 6-way connector present now then it has some sort of tow package on it. I did a little research and found that there should be a blue wire underneath the dash area that will be your brake output wire that will be run to the six way of the Monaco. You will connect this brake output wire to the brake output wire (blue wire) of your brake controller.

The red wire from the brake controller will be the stoplight switch wire and will be run to the stoplight circuit of the Monaco. You will want to find a circuit that sees voltage when the brakes are applied and none when the brakes are not.

The white wire from the controller will be run to the negative side of the vehicle battery.

The black wire will need to be run to the positive side of the vehicle battery through a 30 Amp Pollak Circuit Breaker, part # PK54530.

I attached a couple helpful links on brake controllers for you to check out also.
