For your 2017 Toyota Highlander XLE, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e98844. I've attached a video of this installation for you. This will give you the 2 inch opening for accessories and ball mount options.
If you don't already have the wiring for a trailer connection, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118449 which will give you a 4-way trailer connection at your bumper.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This ball mount is adjustable to allow you to tow many trailers level. It has two hitch ball options, a 2 inch and a 2-5/16 inch to fit with most standard trailer couplers. This ball mount also has a unique stowable feature to give you a clean look when not in use and protect you from hitting your shins while loading and unloading when not in use. I recommend using a hitch lock like # e98882 to secure your investment.
