Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controllers Green Light
Question:
I have a 1999 Ford F-250. The brake controller worked fine and trailer brakes. I parked the trailer for a month. Hooked up the trailer and 7 way plug. I left the house and things were working. The light was green on the controller. Then as when I got about 2 miles from the house, the light went off. Then later it came back on, then went off again. Now I cannot get the brake controller light to come back on. The trailer lights worked, but the brake controller green light wont come on and brakes dont work. What should I check?

The green light on your Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 lets you know that a trailer is connected. It senses this through the brake output line from your controller to the 5 o'clock position on your 7-way trailer connection. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test that pin and trace the line. It definitely sounds like a short on that wire or at the very least some corrosion that needs to be cleaned on the trailer connector itself. Since your trailer sat for a while, you may want to check that side of the connection for corrosion as well.
You can test right behind the controller using the manual over ride and brake to confirm it is this wire and not the controller. You can run a new wire using # 10-1-1 if needed.
