Can Elongated Clamps be Used On a Ladder Rack with a Tonneau Cover 2014 Ford F-150

Question:

Actually, the question I tried to ask was regarding the instructions for attaching the rack rails to the bed through the stake holes. Is there a plate that goes down in the stake holes or do you use the device that is already in the hole? I want to know, if I install this rack, can I remove it when not needed and reinstall it with out tearing it all apart removing the tonneau rail and the bed rail cap again?

I do have tonneau cover and ladder rack options available for your 2014 Ford F-150 but you will not be able to use a set of elongated clamps to attach a ladder rack that mounts inside the bed rails over the base rails on a tonneau cover that mounts inside the bed rails. The clamps would have to extend both over and past the base rails for the tonneau cover and to my knowledge, such clamps do not exist.

The only combination of tonneau cover and ladder rack we have confirmed to work with one another is the Adarac Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # A70490 and any Access cover like the Access Vanish Soft part # 834532007646 or the BAK Revolver X2 Hard Tonneau Cover part # BAK39309 and the TracRac SR Sliding Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # TH43002XT-508.

We currently have not confirmed a ladder rack to work with the BAK Bakflip at this time.

On my 2014 F150 the bed rail cap covers the corner holes no cut outs. I also have a back-flip tonneau cover with inside rail mounts. I think this is the only kayak rack that will fit with the cover in place. You answered the question earlier about not have bed rail cutouts about what to do if the plastic bed rail cap for another user yes it will work but you will need to slot...but I would like to see how the installation instructions say to do it. Could you email me the info before I buy it. Thanks.

The Adarac Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack part # A70490 is only confirmed to work with Access brand soft tonneau covers like the Access Vanish part # 834532007646. I cannot confirm fitment between the Access Adarac and a BAKFlip Tonneau Cover. However, as long as the BAKFlip cover does not lie on the bed rails then the Access Adarac may work for you. The installation instructions for the Access Adarac are designed for truck beds without bed rail covers. The instructions do not specify a process for opening the stake pockets up. To open up the stake pocket holes from the bed rail covers on your F-150 you will first want to make template a by removing the bed rail covers and trace the stake pocket opening from the truck onto a piece of cardboard or construction paper. Once done so you can then trace the outline onto the bed rail cover. With the bed rail cover still removed, use a dremel or sharp knife to remove the material in order to allow access to the stake pockets.

Once you have opened the bed rail caps for use of the stake pocket holes, you can use the method below to attach the ladder racks base rails to the top of the bed rails. 1) Orientate driver’s side rack rail with warning decal near tailgate end of box and long slotted holes to bottom (Passenger side rail does not have decal.) 2) Carefully place rail on top of box rail with slotted holes centered across stake pockets. 3) Orientate clamp plate on cord assembly to drop welded side down through slot in rail so it falls into stake pocket. Hold cord while doing this to support clamp and alignment plates throughout the following steps. NOTE: Some stake pockets may be deformed, if so, it may be necessary to grind material off of spacers. 4) Continue dropping each alignment plate one at time through slot and into stake pocket. Hold cord firmly, jiggle it around and up and down as needed until clamp and plates align with stake pocket for next step. 5) Pull up on cord until you can see and feel that all plates and clamp are held up against bottom of stake pocket and rail as shown. Continue pulling up tight on cord for next step. 6) Place flat washer over hole and thread a hex head bolt into threaded clamp inside stake pocket. Turn until finger tight. Ensure that alignment plates are aligned with stake pocket. Then remove cord. Repeat A through D for all remaining stake pockets. 7) Slowly close tailgate to make sure it will not rub against rack rail when closed. (Adjust rack rail forward if needed). Now fully tighten all clamp bolts. Repeat for rack rail on passenger side of box. To remove the ladder rack, all you have to do is loosen the 3/8" hex head bolts from each stake pocket. The bed rail caps will not need to be removed to do this however, I cannot confirm if the base rails for the BAKFlip will need to be removed as I cannot confirm they will work with this ladder rack.
