Recommended Trailer Hitch for Class I or Class II Ball Mount on 2008 Suzuki SX4

Question:

Hi. I am looking for a hitch for the 2008 Suzuki SX4 Hatchback. I already own a number 1-1/4inch x 1-1/4inch drawbars. I see that the draw-tite hitch will only receive Class I drawbars, but the curt hitch will receive Class II. What I cant find anywhere is how to determine if my drawbars are class I or II? It sounds like they may be longer after the pin hole, but I cant find any measurements for that difference. Can you tell me the measurement differences between a Class I and Class II drawbar? Thanks

Class I compatible ball mounts, such as the Draw-Tite # 3593, will typically have a shorter hitch pin hole measurement to the end of the shank. This allows it to be used on Class I trailer hitch receivers that have the stopper inside the receiver that can prevent higher-class accessories from fitting. There is not a standard measurement that will indicate whether you have a Class I or Class II ball mount, but if you are able to tell me the manufacturer/brand of your existing unit, I will be happy to measure the products we have so you can compare it to yours.

Otherwise, if you want to use your existing 1-1/4 inch ball mounts and be sure that they will work, I recommend going with the Curt Class I Receiver Hitch # C11443 for your 2008 Suzuki SX4. As you mentioned in your question, this Curt hitch does not feature the welded tab inside the receiver hitch. You will be able to use your ball mount whether it has a Class I or Class II rating. This hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will provide a 200 pound tongue weight and a 2,000 pound towing weight capacity. I have attached the installation details that you can review.

Please just note that Curt requires the use of stabilizing straps like # 18050 for non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers.

Since it sounds like you will be doing some towing, I recommend the Curt Wiring Harness # 56002 to install a 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle. This custom-fit harness will connect directly to existing ports behind the trim panels in the cargo area of your Suzuki SX4. I have included the installation instructions for this harness that you can check out as well.
