Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2012 Nissan Frontier
Question:
we just installed the item 118266 T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector. The installation went smoothly and all parts made good soloid connections with audible clicks when snapped together. This was installed on a 2012 Nissan Frontier. We plugged our horse trailer into the recepticle and checked to see if everything was working. All the lights worked, running, brake and signal lights came on when activated. However the brakes on the trailer made no humming noise and go no indication they were being activated. We then tried the same test on our travel trailer with the same results, good activation of all lights but no noise from the brakes. Why would it send power to the brake lights but not the brakes? Do you have any suggestions to fix this problem? Thanks, out

In order to control the electric brakes on your horse trailer, you will need to install a trailer brake controller in your tow vehicle. This is what is needed to send power to the trailer's brakes in conjunction with the brakes on your Nissan Frontier. The 7-Way you have installed will send power to the trailer's brake lights, as you mentioned, but it is not capable of activating the trailer brakes by itself.
I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is a great, proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Frontier. It features an easy-to-read digital display along with continuous diagnostics that will alert you to any potential issues. If your Nissan Frontier has the factory tow package, all you will need to install the unit is the Plug-In Adapter # 3050-P. One end of the adapter will plug into the controller itself and the other end will connect to the built-in port beneath the vehicle's dash.
I have attached the installation details and a video demonstration that you can also check out.
