Electric Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 1994 Ford F-150

Question:

Thanks for your help in my previous matter. I now want to know what type of breaking controller I need for a 1994 F150 it is manual not automatic. Someone told us that the Prodigy 3 was the better one to get, but I am not sure which design is needed. Thanks.

The Tekonsha P3, # 90195, is a good brake controller with a lot of features. If you have brake controller experience, tow multiple trailers, and like customization, then it would be a good choice. If you are new to brake controllers and need one that works well and is easy to use and setup, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885.

Depending on how your truck is wired, you may need additional parts. First, if your 1994 Ford F-150 came with a factory 7-Way trailer connector:
All you will need is the brake controller part # 90195 for the P3, or # 90885 for the P2, and the correct wiring harness. For your truck that part # is 3035-P. The wiring harness plugs into the factory installed port under the das, and connects to the back of the brake controller.

If the truck came with a 4-way wiring harness:
You will still need either part number listed above and add # 37185. The truck 4-Way plugs into the back of this connector and the remaining 4 wires will need to be hard-wired to the vehicle.

If the truck has no trailer connector:
You will need to add a 4-Way first, # 118316. You would then need to install a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. I have included links to FAQ articles and a video that explain how to do the hardwiring and install an # ETBC7. With these parts installed you can use either brake controller listed above.
