Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2014 Honda CR-V

Question:

I am getting ready to 4-wheel flat tow a 2014 Honda CR-V AWD behind my 2011 Winnebago Aspect motorhome. When I purchased the motorhome from a previous owner, it came with a Roadmaster Towbar with a Model Number stamped on it as RM 5250 and Serial Number C45783 with 5000 LB also stamped. I believe it is a Falcon model although the label has been removed. It also came with the Base Assembly 910021-00. In addition to the above, it also came with the BrakePro 10135 for mounting inside the towed vehicle to apply brakes. The BrakePro also has the 2 Remote devices for signaling when the brake is applied. Now the question I have is what else do I need in the equipment line to be able to safely tow the 2014 Honda CR-V AWD behind my Aspect motorhome? I know I will need something I believe is called a Base Plate to mount to the Honda itself. Also, what other items do I need for safety and security safety cables for example or anything else you would recommend.

In addition to the tow bar and supplemental braking system that you already have, you will need a base plate kit, safety cable set and tow bar lighting solution to safely pull your 2014 Honda CR-V.

Starting with the base plates, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit # RM-521567-4. These base plates are custom-fit for your vehicle and feature a hidden bracket design to provide a nice, clean look when compared to standard brackets. I was able to verify that your Roadmaster 5250 Tow Bar is indeed the Falcon model, with which these base plates are compatible. I have attached an installation video on your CR-V that you can use for reference.

Then for safety cables, I recommend the Roadmaster 68 Inch Single Hook # RM-643. These have a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds and will offer the needed security for your towing system.

Then for a lighting solution, I recommend the Optronics Heavy Duty Magnetic Towing Lights # TL21RK. These will allow you to have signal lights on your vehicle without needing to splice into its wiring. Please note that for your Honda CR-V, fuse(s) will need to be pulled during towing. You can check your owner's manual to see which fuse you will need to pull on your specific model. If it says to only pull the #19 ACC radio fuse, you can use the FuseMaster # RM76511. If it states to pull both the #19 ACC radio fuse and the #20 ACC key lock fuse, you will instead use part # RM76512. This will allow you to prep for towing by simply flipping a switch.

Lastly, you will likely need a high-low adapter in order to keep your tow bar level. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the correct one for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also attached an article on flat towing that you might find helpful.
