Question:
I am interested in purchasing a trailer hitch for my 2017 Honda Pilot Elite. What parts would I need to have a complete trailer system?

We can get you everything you need for a complete towing set-up for your 2017 Honda Pilot. To start, the hitch I recommend is the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e98840, a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver, maximum gross trailer weight of 6,000 lbs and maximum tongue weight of 900 lbs.
With a hitch installed, you are going to need wiring to add a 4-flat connector if you do not have one with the factory tow package. The wiring harness that will work is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness - 4-Way Flat # 118760. This will plug into existing wiring so you will not have to do any type of splicing. To mount the 4-flat I strongly recommend using brackets, the No-Drill Bracket # 18140 along with the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144.
The final piece of the trailer puzzle is a ball mount. To choose the correct mount you want to park both your Pilot and trailer on even ground. First measure from the ground to the top of your Pilot's receiver, and then measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer's coupler.
If the height of your coupler is greater, you will need a ball mount with rise. If the height of the hitch is greater you will need a ball mount with drop. You will also need a hitch ball, pin and clip, and to get all of this I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which will fulfill your towing needs in one tidy package; two ball mounts – one with a 3/4” rise or 2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise or 4” drop, a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball and a pin and clip. If those heights are not correct for you, just follow the link I've added to our page with each of our ball mounts, as well as our page with our selection of hitch balls and pins and clips.
