Replacement Wet Cell Breakaway Battery for an RV Trailer

What battery should I buy that is DOT approved as required by the RV transport company. They say it must be a wet cell battery. I thought they were all wet cell but sealed. Thanks

Most breakaway batteries are acid batteries and sealed as you mentioned. There are some batteries that have moved to a gel but are also sealed and considered wet. Some of the old breakaway kits used a lantern dry cell battery, but we don't carry those replacements.

All of our Breakaway batteries are DOT approved. I recommend the Hopkins Breakaway Kit Replacement 12 V Battery # HM20008. This battery measures 3-1/2" L x 2-3/4" W x 4" H. I've attached a video to further assist.

The battery you use for a break away system needs to be able to power the trailer brakes on full for 15 minutes. A 12 volt battery rated for 5 amp hours is normally used, unless you have 3 axles each with brakes, then you would benefit more from a 9…
