Trailer and Flat Towing Recommendations for a 2017 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
I need a base plate kit to install on a 2017 Jeep wrangler to tow it with the RV but I also need a front hitch receiver to pull my airplane from the hangar. Can someone just add the receiver socket by welded it on the base plate? Can you have that done? Thanks,

Since base plate kits are only rated and tested for pulling the vehicle itself, in your case your 2017 Jeep Wrangler, it is not safe to use it for towing - especially when it has to be modified. You will want to install a rear mounted trailer hitch receiver, like the Curt # 13432, if you are wanting to tow something as well as have a base plate kit installed. Because a base plate kit and a front mount hitch will mount in the same spot it is not possible to use both at the same time.
You will also need a wiring harness, like part # 118416, for a 4-Way flat connector and a ball mount and hitch ball for a complete towing setup. I recommend checking out part # C45036 which comes with a shank that has a 2 inch Drop, but you will want to check out the attached article on choosing a ball mount to ensure you get the correct one.
For a flat towing setup on your 2017 Jeep Wrangler with a standard factory bumper you will need a Tow Bar, Safety Cables, a Base Plate Kit, Vehicle Tow Bar Wiring, a Supplemental Brake System, and also a High-Low Adapter.
I recommend using the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 and RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643 which are compatible with the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit # RM-521448-4 for your Wrangler. The Falcon 2 is compatible with the EZ4 Kit and the coiled feature on the Safety Cables helps to keep them from dragging on the ground.
The Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 is my favorite to recommend for Vehicle Tow Bar Wiring due to how fast and easy it is to hook up the wiring to your RV's 7-Way once it is installed.
For a Supplemental Braking System I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 for the exact same reason. Once it is installed you simply need to connect it to your RV and flip a switch before heading down the road. It remains installed when not flat towing but you will hardly notice it is even there because of how well it was designed. You will also need to install the Relay # RM-88400 as well.
Most setups will need a High-Low Adapter for a level flat towing setup. I have attached a link to our selection of high-low adapters as well as a helpful article explaining how to choose the correct one.
I have also attached some installation videos on similar Jeeps for you to check out as well.
