Is Fulton F2 Winch FW16000101 Single-Speed or 2-Speed Winch

Question:

Reading the reviews on the above winch and many refer to it as being a 2 speed winch. That would be nice but I am not sure this winch is a 2 speed, is it?? My boat is probably about 1500 pounds with all my gear in it. Would this winch be a good fit or should I go with something bigger? I am replacing my T1801 only because my handle is, again, wearing out.

Fulton F2 Winch # FW16000101 is a single-speed winch that does have an adjustable handle that can be installed on either side of the winch for right- or left-handed users and the handle length is also adjustable.

This quality winch probably has enough capacity for a 1500-lb boat but selecting a winch's capacity does depend on more than just the boat weight. The amount of incline, the type of bunks on the trailer (roller bunks like # DL21741 versus standard carpeted bunks like # CE27840) and the winching distance all come into play. Please refer to the linked article on winches which will give you more on these factors and help you make the best selection.

As with most items including jacks, it is best to choose one with more capacity than you need. Using an item like a jack or winch well below its rated maximum usually tends to mean it will last longer. If used at or near maximum capacity jacks and winches tend to wear out sooner than if they are operated below their limits. I suggest using the XLT model # F142425 which is rated for 3200-lbs and that is indeed a 2-speed design.
