Recommended Trailer Axle Replacement For Old Trailer with Odd Sized Spindles

Question:

I have an old trailer here with a 5 on 4 1/2 10 inch drums. Problem I have is I cant find a replacement on your site. Bearings are L68149 on the inner and LM12748 on the outside ones. The backing plate you have will bolt on but the drums wont work on this axle. Replace axle? Just wanted your thoughts

The bearing # L68149 we have, but as you stated we don't have any hubs that fit the other bearing you mentioned as it is an odd size. I recommend replacing the axle so you can have the replaceable parts you need for your trailer to keep functioning properly. For this replacement I recommend the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 89" - 3,500 lbs # 35545E-ST-89 which comes with all the components as long as your spring center to spring center measurements are 74 inches apart.

If the measurements won't fit, then I recommend you use the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System w Electric Brake Hubs - Straight Spindle - 3,500 lbs # A35RS545E which will give you all the components including the replacements for your suspension. This system simply bolts to your trailer frame and utilizes a 2 inch square tube if there isn't a cross brace in your frame at the axle location. This system can be used for tandem axles if your trailer is dual axle.

Let me know if you have further questions.
