Recommend Hitch and Accessories Needed To Tow Camper With My 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Question:
Hi I have a 2005 grand caravan with stow and go seats. What hitch and accessories will I need? The previous owner of the camper said to get a 2 inch ball. Thanks for your help.

Expert Reply:
Yes, to tow a camper I would recommend using a Class III trailer hitch, like the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, pat # 75119. The Class III hitch is the highest rated hitch available for the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan and will fit models with the Stow-N-Go seats.
To complete your towing setup you will need the following items:
Draw-Tite Ball Mount, part # 2753
2 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19247
Tow Ready Vehicle Wiring, part # 118300
Pin and Clip, part # PC3
The Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 19247 will be the correct hitch ball you need if your camper does have a 2 inch coupler as indicated by the previous owner.
Also, if the camper you are towing weighs 50 percent or more of your vehicles weight, you would benefit from a weight distribution system with sway control system. A weight distribution system will distribute the weight of the trailer throughout the tow vehicle and reduce vehicle sag.
Whenever towing you want to make sure to stay within the towing capacity of your vehicle as stated in the vehicle owners manual and within towing capacity of your hitch.
