Recommended Vehicle Wiring Harness for a 2006 Toyota Tundra Truck
Question:
I need to install wiring for a trailer on my 2006 Tundra Basic. Which kit? And with the kit in place do the lights on BOTH the truck and trailer work, or just the trailer?

For your 2006 Toyota Tundra truck, I recommend the Upgraded Modulite Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # C59496. This kit will allow you to install a 4-pole flat trailer connector to your vehicle.
The Tekonsha kit will need to be hardwired to the lighting circuit of your Tundra. When installed the harness will power the tail, turn signal, and stop lights of your trailer. These same functions on your Tundra will still be operational when the Tekonsha kit installed.
If you will be towing a trailer that needs brakes, You will need to also install an # ETBC7 Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat. This kit will have the 7-way RV connector and all the wiring needed to run between a brake controller and 7-way connector.
If a brake controller is needed, then I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, # 90885. This is one of our most popular controllers with our customers. The P2 is a proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes with the same intensity of braking that is applied to your tow vehicle. No hesitation in trailer braking that is found with time-delayed brake controllers.
I have attached a few articles and videos for you to review on tow vehicle/trailer wiring and brake controllers.
