Recommended Axle for Replacing Odd Torsion Axle on 1940's Trailer
Question:
If I only have an inch clearance from top of my tire to Wheel well and want more but do not know the angle of my exsisting axle because its from the 40s and its an odd ball, would I be ok with a 10 down turn high profile bracket torsion axle. Ive read where a 22.5 down is common. I just dont want to get the trailer riding so high it looks funny. Any suggestions?Angle of dexter torsion axle?

The angle of a Dexter torsion axle is 45 degrees at starting angle. Under weight it is normally about 10 degrees. We don't carry these axles, however, we do carry an axle-less suspension system that will be ideal for your trailer. You won't need to worry about too much rise and it will give you proper fender clearance when using compatible tires. I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System w Hubs - Straight Spindle - 5 on 4-1/2 - # A35RS545 or the # A35RS545E if you want electric brake hubs.
These assemblies mount directly to your frame and if mounted where there is a cross brace don't need any reinforcement. If they are mounted where there isn't a brace you simply add 2x2 inch square tubing to the integrated holes in the assemblies. This will give you the axle height, suspension, and easy bolt on installation to make your trailer roll like new and give you standard spindles compatible with replacement parts as needed.
I have linked the page to all of our axles so you can select the correct capacity for your trailer. These systems come in smaller capacities and larger ones. They are not torsion axles but have an integrated aeon rubber shock absorbing cushion. They are incredibly versatile and can be used in tandem axle applications.
