Recommended Weight Distribution System For Leveled 2013 Ford F150 4X4 Towing A Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2013 F150 4X4 that has a level kit on it so the truck sits level without any weight in the back. I tried using a 1000lb WDH, my truck sites a bit low but my trucks rear bounces up and down going down the freeway, not a fun drive. My F150 has a tow package. What would be the best recommendation for my truck to tow this trailer with ease. The tongue weight of the trailer should be around 420 dry, water is held up front 42gallon and I easily put 200+ lbs of gear in the rear of the truck when hauling the TT. My first recommendation is to never tow with a water tank filled. That much weight along with the momentum of moving fluid could cause any vehicle to bounce and sway.
For your weight distribution, when you account for the fully loaded tongue weight (without water) and the cargo behind the rear axle of your truck, you will get the total tongue weight. I think this will put you somewhere in the middle of the 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs range. For this, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # RP66084. This system will help to distribute the trailer weight to give you a much better driving experience. This system has dual cams to actively prevent sway and is extremely adjustable so you can customize it to your driving preferences. I've attached a review video of this product to assist.
You will also need a hitch ball, and I recommend # A-90 for a 2 inch diameter ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch diameter hitch ball.
