Parts Needed to Install 7-way Trailer Connector on 2011 Honda Pilot

Question:

Is this kit a direct replacement for the Honda Pilot wiring kit that a dealer would supply? I have a 2011 Honda Pilot with the hitch already installed, but no wiring hook up. Thanks

The procedure for installing a 7-way trailer connector will depend on whether your Pilot is equipped with the 4 or the 6 cylinder engine. 6 cylinder engines are equipped with the factory towing connector located behind the bumper on the driver's side (see photo.) If this connector is present, you can indeed install the Tekonsha 7-way, part # 118253. The taillight converter as well as the necessary fuses and relays are included to activate the factory tow package.

If your Pilot has the 4 cylinder engine, you would need to use the Tow Ready T-1 Wiring Harness, part # 118491, and you'd use a 4-pole to 7-way adapter. If you need a 7-way connector to supply lighting connections only, part # 37185 can be used to adapt the 4-pole to a 7-way. If the trailer has electric brakes, a brake controller would need to be installed using part # ETBC7, our Brake Controller Install Kit which includes the adapter mentioned above.

If a controller is needed, I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy, part # 90885. The P2 is very easy to use, which helps make it our best selling controller.

We have several online resources that can assist with the installation of a controller, I will provide links to some FAQ articles, as well as an install video for the ETBC7 kit and the T-1 Connector. The video shows a controller being installed on a different vehicle using the install kit, but the procedure on your Pilot would be very similar.
