To select the best option in a folding 2-inch hitch cargo carrier for use on your 2016 Suburban you will want to take note of one clearance dimension, the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the vehicle (probably the bumper cover). This dimension will allow you to choose a carrier that will still fit nicely when you have it folded up in the storage position. The linked article illustrates taking this simple measurement.
The etrailer # e98874 will offer 9-1/2 inches when folded to avoid contacting the vehicle and the Curt # C18109 will offer 6-inches of clearance to avoid contact.
For use with the etrailer we offer light kit #e98943-44LED . This requires the Suburban have 4-pole wiring like # C59496. If the Suburban has a 7-way wiring set-up then all you'd need is an adapter # 47015 to convert that format to the 4-pole format on the light kit.
Another thing to keep in mind is weight capacity. Your hitch will have a safety/warning sticker that indicates its tongue weight (TW) capacity, or you will find this in your owner's manual. TW is the downward force on the hitch from what is installed in it. With a cargo carrier this means the weight of the carrier itself plus the total weight of the items you put in the carrier. This total cannot exceed the hitch TW rating. For instance, if your hitch were to be rated for 500-lbs of TW and you chose a carrier that weighs 100-lbs, this means that you then have a remaining capacity of 400-lbs for the cargo items.
Any hitch-mounted accessory item will tend to interfere to some degree with the lift gate sensors commonly found on vehicles. The etrailer carrier also tilts out when loaded to help with this. Most use multiple sensors so in actual practice this typically means you'll need to use the outer-most sensors on the bumper to activate this function.
The best anti-rattle device for your application is the # e99047 This secures the carrier's shank to reduce rattle and wobble and deter theft.
