Proper Tire Pressure for Trailer Tires

Question:

I have a 2002 Coleman Niagara Elite with weighs in around 3200 lbs pretty much the maximum for these tires It seems to track better with tire pressures around 50 PSI. The sidewall states the maximum of 65 PSI - but no recommended pressure. When I increase the pressure to 60 PSI it is all over the place. Is it okay to run the tires at 50 PSI? What does the manufacturer recommend for PSI? Thanks,

Expert Reply:

You should not run your tires at 50 psi if their max rating is 65 psi. Trailer tires such as the Karrier # AM31991 always need to be filled to the max psi for the best performance, while reducing the air pressure is going to lessen the load you are able to carry, making the tire's performance uneven and heightening the risk of a blowout.
