Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 9,000 Pound Trailer and 2000 Ford Excursion

Question:

Hi we just bought a new 2017 jayco 32BDSW the dealer installed a reese pro 49902. the trailer dry tongue weight is 855 lbs GVW of trailer is 9000 LBS. I measured our tongue weight via the bathroom scale method and I come in at 1044 LBS tongue weight. no food or water in tanks. other than that trailer is loaded. the tow vehicle is a 2000 ford excursion 4x4 7.3 diesel load range E tires 3.73 rears. as it sits right now I am driving up hill all the time. I really need to get this corrected and need some advice on what should have been installed on the truck. any help would be appreciated.

Pro Series Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW # PS49582 is very much under rated for the tongue weight of your trailer. Considering that your measured tongue weight is 1,044 without water and other things even the 1,200 pound system # 49570 might not be enough once loaded and ready to tow.

I recommend going to a 1,500 pound system such as Curt Weight Distribution System # C17333. The only other part needed is a ball. The ball you have now will fit this system as well but it is probably not rated high enough so I recommend replacing it with # C40030.

With a properly rated system it will help with the sag you still have but may not eliminate it completely. If that is the case then you can add helper springs such as # TFREXC4 to the 2000 Ford Excursion.
