B78-13ST tires can be replaced with size 175/80-13 tires. I recommend going with radial tires, which are ideal for towing trailers. These tires come in load range C (1,360 lbs at 50 psi) and load range D (1,600 lbs at 65 psi). Your tire load range should match or exceed your axle capacity. My research indicated that an unloaded 1998 Mesa with the standard manufacturer equipment weighs approximately 2,000 lbs, so while a lighter trailer load would let you get by with load range C tires, just to be safe, I recommend going with load range D tires, which would be more than capable of transporting your trailer.

For a load range D tire, I recommend our Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" White Wheel, # AM31985, which also offers the steel spoke style. This wheel/tire combo includes a rust-resistant e-coat, computer-generated tread design for superior traction, and a 2-year warranty.

If you do decide to go with load range C tires, the Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" White Wheel, # TA43RR offers the steel mod wheel style you mention. It also offers a rust-resistant e-coat, improved torque retention technology to help secure the wheel, and a 2-year Platinum Plus Warranty with Roadside Assistance.

If you are interested in going with a different style and upgrading to aluminum wheels, I recommend the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - load range D, # AM32001HWTB.
