Installation Of A Brake Controller In A 2015 VW Touareg
Question:
I had a 2010 touareg and found the connector for the electric brakes. I have now purchased a 2015 touareg and can not find the under dash connector. I understand that it is no longer in the new touareg. Have installed the the prodigy and the brakes only work spasmodically. If they are not working, the only way the get them working is to switch off the car and restart. Any suggestions?.

For your 2015 VW Touareg, because you don't have a factory tow package, I recommend you use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 or # 5506 if you already have the 7-way connector. This will allow you to get the power and ground to your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. Then you will have a brake output and 12V wire to your trailer connector. You will tap into the cold side of your brake switch for your brake signal to your controller. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to confirm you have the correct wire.
I've attached an few articles to assist further. If you need to turn your car on and off, there is a short somewhere that needs to be fixed or you need to connect the controller differently.
