Installation Of Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118501 On My 2011 Hyundai Tucson

Question:

I have ordered the T harness for the vehicle. Will it be necessary to run power all the way from the battery. Or will power to the harness be supplied from tail lights? ???? Dont like the thought of running a power wire all the way to the front.

The item you selected, Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118501, is designed to protect the vehicle wiring as it draws power directly from the vehicle battery. I cannot recommend attaching the power wire to the vehicle tail light harness as it could possibly overload the circuit and/or damage the vehicle wiring.

You will want to find a rubber grommet on the floor of the rear cargo area. Then remove the grommet and cut a slice in the grommet to feed the power wire through. You will then want to re-install the grommet and apply some silicone to reseal the grommet.

Run the power wire along the frame rails, toward the front of the vehicle using included zip ties to secure the wire and keep it from hanging down. You will want to avoid running the wire near exhaust and any moving components. After running wire to engine bay, you will need to disconnect the negative battery terminal. Then, you can connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on the battery by connecting the power wire to the fuse holder and install the fuse. Then you can reconnect the negative battery terminal.

The other option to run the power wire to the front of the vehicle would be to go through the vehicle. You could run the power wire underneath the vehicle kick panels, through the firewall, and then to the battery.

After making all the connections, you will want to test the unit with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 or with the trailer connected.
