Tire Chains Use and Fit on 235/45R18 Tires on 2017 Kia Soul
Question:
I have a 2017 Kia Soul wit 235/45R18s. What is the difference between the Glacier PW1042s and the PW1034s? Are the rubber PW99s needed for both? Thanks.

For any vehicle, to know it is safe to use tire chains you will want to consult the owner's manual. Some cars can use chains only on one axle; others may be able to use tire chains only on specific tire sizes. The final authority on the question of tire chains is always the auto maker. You may also care to look at the linked tire chain article.
I reviewed an online edition of the owner's manual for your car and on pages 6-77 and 6-78 Kia indicates the recommendation to use snow tires rather than tire chains, and that if chains are used that they be installed only on the front axle. No reference to compatible tire sizes is made in the manual. As with all auto makers, Kia recommends care when driving with chains and not to exceed 20-mph.
For your 235/45R18 tire size all suitable tire chains are displayed on the linked page. These include both the cable type like # PW1042 and chain types like Titan # TC1553. The other chain you referenced, # PW1034, is the same cable type like # PW1042 but does not fit your specific tire size. Both are best used with rubber adjusters # TCMA2 to maintain a snug fit.
Among all options for your tires, I suggest the Titan # TC1553 which is shown in the linked video.
