Helpful Expert Reply:
A 1-7/8 inch hitch ball only needs to fit into the ball mount that goes into a hitch such as the Curt # C11386. However, a hitch, ball mount and hitch ball should not be used with a 2008 Mazda 3 for towing purposes because the owner's manual specifically says not to tow a trailer.
