Installing A Brake Controller On A 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan With Factory Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan with the Factory Tow Package installed which as far as I can tell, just means a 2inch hitch receiver, the 7-way plug, and who knows what else. Chrysler/Dodge have not been very forthcoming on what is actually part of the Tow Package but from what I can tell from other owners, there is no Brake Controller functionality included. Dodge does sell an add-on module called the Integrated Electronic Trailer Brake Controller Part # 82212548 which would seem to add this functionality, but does not appear to have been included. Im looking to add a brake controller Tekonsha but I am unsure whether I need any vehicle specific wiring harness or other equipment so looking for a recommendation.

For your 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. This brake controller has a really nice LCD screen that takes code deciphering out of the equation. You will get simple, easy to understand diagnostics as well as connection information. This controller will apply your trailer brakes with the same intensity at the same time as you hit the brake pedal in your Grand Caravan.
Since you already have the factory 7-way, I recommend the wiring kit for brake controllers # 5506. This will give you the wiring and the circuit breakers you need for your brake controller and for the 12V signal if you need it for your 7-way as well. I've attached a video to help.
