What Trailer Light Functions Work Without 12V Connection On 7-Way

Does the battery have to be charged in order for trailer lights to work?

On a 7-way trailer connector, the 12V power function does not need to be connected for the other functions such as clearance lights, tail lights, stop and turn lights to work properly. The battery of your vehicle needs to be charged enough to draw a little power for the lights or to start your engine for your trailer lights to work under alternator power.
If you are talking about a trailer battery charging or any internal lighting in a travel trailer or 5th wheel, you would need that black 12V wire working. To run this 12V wire if you don't already have it, I recommend the # 5506 which will give you the circuit breakers needed for 12V as well as electric brake controller if desired/needed.
