Parts Needed to Install a 7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness on 2016 Kia Sorento

Question:

Hi, I have 2 questions. 1. How can I tell if my 2016 Kia Sorento has factory installed wiring for towing? I know I do not have the tow hitch so I am guessing there is no factory wiring but I wanted to know where to look. 2. I have been doing my research to find the correct wiring hook ups for my vehicle but everything I find is for a 4 way trailer wiring system. I want to wire for a 7 way to use electronic brake control. Do I use the 4 way system and then get an adapter for the 7 way? Thanks for your help.

To install a 7-way on your 2016 Kia Sorento first requires a 4-way. Since you do not have a the factory hitch it is very likely you do not have the tow package. The good news is that the harness for the vehicles without the tow package like # 118583 fit even if the vehicle has the tow package so it is a safe bet plus it's pretty easy to install.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
