I have a few options for you to consider when replacing the electric drum brakes on 7,000 lb. axle. You can choose from a self-adjusting or manual adjusting assembly.
The self-adjusting drum brakes like the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-7-SA have an integrated mechanism that will automatically move the adjuster screw outward as the shoes begin to wear. This will ensure you are receiving the maximum performance and wear life from your brakes. The second option you have is a manual adjusting brake assembly such as the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-6. In order to obtain maximum performance and wear life for these brakes, you will need to use the Brake Adjustment Spoon for Drum Brakes part # W80630 to extend the brake adjuster screw outward through an access hole on the back of the the assembly, every few hundred miles.
I recommend the self-adjusting braking assembly part # AKEBRK-7-SA as these drum assemblies will require the least amount of maintenance with the best performance for only a marginally higher price. I would also recommend using our Mounting Bolts and Hardware part # BRKH12 when installing these brakes.
I have included an installation and review video for both of these drum brake assemblies.
