Installing 7-Way on 2013 Ford Explorer Towing Pop-up Camper with Surge Brakes and Electric Lockout
Question:
I have a 2013 Ford Explorer Base without the factory tow package, however I have the Curt aftermarket hitch#C13100 and I wired a flat 4-pin wiring. My popup camper has surge brakes. It seems like I would not need the whole 7-pin kit #ETBC7 because I dont need a brake wire, and I should be able to use this part #30717, correct?

If the trailer plugs into a 7-Way then you can use # 30717 and you would just have to ground the white wire and splice the yellow wire into a reverse light wire on your 2013 Ford Explorer. The black wire is for 12 volt power (if the trailer uses 12 volt power) and will need to be run to the vehicle battery via a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540 and about 25 feet of wire # 12-1-1 which is sold by the foot.
The blue wire you can tape up and stow out of the way.
The # ETBC7 kit comes with the breaker and wire along with some other parts you will need for the installation. Pretty much the only thing you would not be using out of the ETBC7 kit are the other 2 breakers (20 and 30 amp) so it could still be used.
