The Curt Venturer # C74VV and TriFlex # C24VV are two of the smaller brake controllers. The main difference between the two is the TriFlex is a proportional controller so the braking will be smoother and put less wear on the truck and trailer's brakes.
However, a proportional controller needs to be installed within its range of direction. A time delayed, like the Venturer can be installed at any angle. This may be easier since you have limited space in your 2014 Toyota Tacoma. Normally I always recommend the benefits of a proportional controller but if you can't find an appropriate mounting location the time delayed may be the better option for you.
Both Curt controllers install into your truck using the # C51362 adapter.
Another option, which is more expensive but gives you a great proportional controller without taking up space in your truck is the Curt Echo # C51180. It plugs into your truck's 7-way in-line with the trailer's 7-way. Your truck must have a functioning 12 volt pin on its trailer connector. Then the Echo connects wirelessly to your smartphone that you use to control the settings of the controller while it's back on your trailer doing its job engaging your brakes when you step on the brake pedal.
