Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Installation in 2012 Dodge Durango Without Factory Trailer Wiring
Question:
Hello and thanks for any help you can provide! I have a 2012 Dodge Durango that did not come factory equipped with a brake controller port under the dash board. It does have the tow haul transmission button. We had out dealer just install the trailer wiring and hitch. I went to plug in our Tekonsha P3 brake controller with the 3045-P harness and found we do not have the 4 pin connection under the dash as expected. Is this something the dealer should have installed with the trailer light harness wiring or is it something extra we should have picked up? Also how can we wire the universal cable or would it be easier and best to get the dealer to add the internal harness? Thanks.

Installation of a trailer brake controller like the excellent Prodigy P3 # 90195 in your 2012 Dodge Durango that did NOT have a factory-installed trailer socket will require hardwiring.
Usually the brake controller connection port must be factory-installed; rarely is this something a dealer could install. Although it might be possible, strictly speaking, the labor costs at a dealership would likely be pretty high and make this step prohibitive.
Since I do not know what type of wiring the dealer installed I will give you a recap of the aftermarket parts we would specify to install the P3 in your Durango that does not have the under-dash port.
You need to start with an aftermarket 4-pole harness like # 118552 unless your dealer installed one. To this you will add our brake controller installation kit # ETBC7 which contains all of the other components you (or the dealer) need to hardwire the P3. Both an article and video on installing the # ETBC7 kit are linked for reference.
