You will want to start off by checking your grounds on both your tow vehicle and your trailer to make sure that they all have secure and clean connections. Even some paint cause cause weird things to happen; you want a metal-to-metal connection.
If that looks good, then you will want to check out and test the connectors on both your tow vehicle and trailer. Make sure they are clean and free of debris. You can check your vehicle side connector by using a Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to make sure it is getting the proper signal strength. To make sure that your trailer wiring is secured properly you can use a 12V battery.
If either of them is experiencing a problem you will want to check the wiring to make sure there are no places where it is corroded, damaged, exposed, or bent. You can use 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 to replace anything that looks bad.
If you are not getting a good signal on your tow vehicle side, then you will want to trace the blue wire that is coming out of the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 and cut it about 6 inches from the controller. Using the circuit tester, you can check to make sure that it is actually sending a signal when you press the brake pedal. If it isn't then you will want to check the red wire and make sure that it is connected to the COLD side of your stop light switch (the wire that only gets hot when the brake pedal is pressed).
If that looks good but the controller still isn't sending a signal, then you will need to replace it. I recommend replacing it with the Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it will plug directly into the connector that the Voyager was using, and it has an easy-to-read LCD screen for operation.
