Recommended Hitch Cargo Carrier for 2012 Subaru Impreza
Question:
Hello, I have the hidden EcoHitch installed on my 2012 Subaru Impreza hatchback non-WRX, 2inch receiver. Im overwhelmed by the cargo basket options, particularly by Curt - 18150 to 18153. My initial intent was to obtain highest ground clearance with foldability, so I steered toward 18153. However, since the EcoHitch is mounted high, Im not sure a bent shank is necessary, and I worry that folding either of the bent or straight 18151 shanks will obstruct my rear view and result in a ticket. Also, I dont like the 19inch shank lengths for these options. Whats your opinion on this matter? Which basket would you steer toward, given that Subaru officially limits tongue weight to 200 lbs despite EcoHitch capability?

As you mentioned in your question, there is a very large selection of cargo baskets that are compatible with the 2 inch trailer hitch receiver on your 2012 Subaru Impreza. When choosing one that is right for you, you will want to consider what you plan on carrying along with the weight capacity of your vehicle. The folding feature on the Curt 20x60 # C18151 or 24x60 (NO LONGER AVAILABLE) C18153 is nice to have when the carrier is not in use. The mesh floor on these units will allow for it to be folded up without causing any visibility or obstruction issues.
One thing you will want to keep in mind when considering the 200 pound capacity of your Impreza is the weight of the cargo carrier itself. For example, the 24x60 Folding Curt Carrier weighs approximately 71 pounds, which will leave you with only about 129 pounds of actually carrying capacity. If you plan on carrying heavier cargo with the basket, I recommend going with the lightest carrier that will still be large enough to support the size of your items.
The slightly smaller but lighter 20x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151 may be the better option because of its 58 pound weight. Another option to consider is the 19x60 Folding Curt Cargo Carrier # C18100. This particular unit is constructed of durable aluminum so it only weighs 31 pounds.
I have attached demonstration videos on these products for you to check out.
