Recommendation for 16 Foot Trailer with Bumper that Drags when Going Up Driveway

Question:

Hi there - we just purchased a 16 foot travel trailer and the bumper drags for a couple feet, just barely, when we go up our steep driveway. I used a 2 x 6 board as a ramp to bridge the low point, which worked and kept all the weight on the wheels. Will using skid wheels damage the frame, trailer, or camper itself? Are there any that dont need to be welded on?

Expert Reply:

Installing skid wheels on your new 16 foot travel trailer, such as the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels # UF48-979011, will not cause any damage to its frame or overall structure. These are designed specifically to help with the issue you are having when going up your driveway and will prevent the tail from dragging, thus protecting the undercarriage from potential damage.

The frame mount skid wheels we have available will all be a weld-on installation. If you happen to have a trailer hitch installed on your trailer, another option is a hitch mount skid wheel like the Ultra-Fab Rotating Skid Wheels # UF48-979014. This will bolt on onto 2-1/2 inch x 2-1/2 inch square hitch tubes and no welding is needed.

I have attached a couple of demonstration videos on these products for you to check out.
