Can Detail K2 Mighty Multi A-Frame Utility Trailer Have Tires with Higher Speed Rating Installed

Question:

How fast is this trailer rated? I want a trailer that can handle 65 mph or more. If this is rated for less, can the axles, hubs, wheels, tires, etc be upgraded?

The speed rating is related to the tires as that's the limiting factor. The tire on the trailer part # K2MMT5X7 would be limited to 65, but what you can do is replace the tires with the part # TTWSF48012C which is rated for 81 mph. This would lower the capacity of the trailer to being 1,980 lbs though. The tire will also cause the trailer to sit about 3/4 of an inch lower.

Reduce Detail K2 Trailer capacity from 1640#'s to 1,980#'s? New math? ;-)

We call it etrailer math! In all seriousness, the wording is a bit confusing, but the overall capacity of the Detail K2 Trailer # K2MMT5X7 would indeed be "reduced" to 1,980 pounds in this instance (which is the combined load rating of two of those tires). The Detail K2 does have a carrying capacity of 1,640 pounds - however this refers to the loaded cargo weight. When the weight of the trailer itself is added, this comes out to a GVWR of 2,090 pounds - so this is what's being reduced. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.

@ChrisR Thanks for reply. To follow "Etrailer" or "new math" trailer GVRW's reduced by 111#'s correct when changing to those tires spec'd for 81mph? 1640 + 451 = 2091

@Bob You got it - you're losing about 110 pounds of capacity when switching to the high speed tires. Not a big deal as long as you don't plan on pushing the trailer's limits.
